Melvin Makada
Co-Head of Climate & Energy Desk
Melvin Makada has a strong academic foundation in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Renewable Energy. Graduating with First Class Honors in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (BEng) from Brunel University, Melvin went on to obtain a Masters in Renewable Energy & Clean Technology (MSc) from the University of Manchester.
Throughout his academic journey, Melvin completed significant dissertations on critical topics in the renewable energy field. His first dissertation focused on determining acceptable renewable energy penetration levels for system adequacy, while his second dissertation involved modelling multi-energy systems within Portugal's domestic domain, addressing the global rise in energy demand and renewable energy integration. He optimized various energy vectors to evaluate cost changes with or without solar photovoltaics and battery energy storage systems, utilizing a multi-energy system tool. Beyond academics, Melvin served as Vice Head of the Autonomous Vehicle Project at Brunel Robotics Society, where he led the assembly of hardware components and oversaw the deployment of prototype vehicles.
Currently, Melvin contributes to a leading global power systems and renewable energy consultancy. He has gained extensive experience conducting power system studies, including load flow analysis for grid code compliance, fault level studies for battery energy storage systems and solar parks and reactive power and voltage control studies.
