Emily Donald

Associate, Climate & Energy Desk

Emily Donald is an engineering professional with a focus on energy systems and financial strategy. She is completing a degree in Materials Science and Engineering at Imperial College London (BEng), with a final-year focus on computational modelling of nanomaterials. She has also studied power systems within Imperial’s Electrical Engineering Department, specialising in energy generation, transmission, and market economics.

Her professional experience includes energy economics and commercial advisory at Kuungana Advisory, where she worked on modelling the Southern African Power Pool using Python and Gurobi optimisation to support a renewable energy developer in Mozambique. She also completed a Bank of America internship, gaining experience in financial trading, asset valuation, and capital markets, alongside exploring machine learning applications in finance.

Beyond her professional and academic work, Emily has been actively involved in sustainable development initiatives. At e.quinox, a development incubator at Imperial College, she led a project designing a low-water, low-cost mushroom cultivation system to address protein malnutrition. This provided her with engineering expertise and insights into East African supply chains. Emily has a strong interest in the intersection of energy, finance, and sustainability, aiming to contribute to Africa’s transition to resilient and equitable energy systems.
